CABINET MEETS WITH NEWLY APPOINTED CHAIRS AND DIRECTORS OF PUBLIC BODIES BOARD OF DIRECTORS
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Honourable Prime Minister and Ministers of Cabinet held a meeting to officially welcome the newly appointed Directors and Chairpersons to Public Bodies Boards of Directors following their appointments in February this year.
The Prime Minister Honourable La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polāta’ivao Fosi Schmidt emphasized the critical role of these new appointments in advancing the government’s development agenda and achieving respective Public Bodies mandates. He underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Directors and Responsible Ministers and other key stakeholders to ensure successful realization of the government’s strategic initiatives that will drive the country’s future developments.
The removal of Cabinet Ministers from chairing boards places significant trust to the Chairperson and the Board that their decisions are not only in the best interest of the Public Body but should also aligned with the development priorities of the country hence the accountability and transparency of key players in the Public Bodies space is paramount.
The Honourable Prime Minister also encouraged the Chief Executive Officer and the Ministry for Public Enterprises to ensure robust frameworks are in place and enforced for effective performance of Boards and Public Bodies. The Ministry is responsible to provide an Induction program for the newly appointed directors before they commence with their directorship roles.
Following the completion of this round of recruitment and selection, there are 35 director vacancies that is currently under the recruitment and selection process of Independent Selection Committee [I.S.C.]. It is expected that I.S.C. will complete this process in April this year.
