DIRECTORS INDUCTION SEMINAR
A group of sixteen (16) first time Directors appointed to serve on the Boards of eleven (11) Public Bodies gathered on Monday 9th September 2024 to attend an induction seminar held by the Ministry for Public Enterprises.
The Minister for Public Enterprises, Honourable Leatinuu Wayne Sooialo delivered the keynote address, thanking the Directors for their willingness to be of service to the government through the Boards of the Public Bodies, and acknowledged the value of their knowledge and experience to the oversight role of the Board.
The presentations started with a summary on the legal framework, the set of legislations governing the appointment and duties of the Directors presented by Ms Bronwyn Malifa, Acting ACEO Public Bodies Governance Division.
Tooala Elita, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry for Public Enterprises explained through the Directors duties and responsibilities, clarifying realistic expectations and potential issues they may encounter when practising their roles as Directors. She reminded the directors on their duty of care prioritizing the best interest of the respective Organizations they serve as directors and ensure obligations of the Public Bodies (Performance and Accountability) Act 2001 are to be achieved.
The seminar concluded with an overview of the Public Bodies financial performance over the course of five (5) years from FY2019-FY2023 presented by ACEO Mutual Bodies and Public Beneficial Bodies Tuala Moana Leiataua Fruean and Acting ACEO Commercial Entities Monitoring Division Luatua Ollie Reupena.
